Glossary of Terms for Window Blinds, Shutters and Shades
The area of window treatments dealing with window blinds, shutters and shades has its own terminology and ways to search for a particular idea or product. To help you understand what is being presented, here is a list of the most commmonly used terms, phrases and questions.
Window or door blind: is a covering for a window or door, which is usually attached to the interior side of a window. Its function is to either hide from sight (thus "blinding" the viewer) or to reduce light or heat into a room. (Wikipedia)
Bay Window: a window space projecting outward from the main walls of a building and forming a bay being either square or polygonal in plan. The angles most commonly used are 90, 45 and 30 degrees. Bay windows are often associated with Victorian architecture and first achieved widespread popularity in the 1870's. These windows are commonly used to provide the illusion of a larger room and to increase the flow of natural light indoors. (Wikipedia)
Faux Wood: starting with Faux, this the French word for Fake. When used in conjunction with manufacturing objects or materials out of wood, a faux wood product would result in an imitation wood material item that resembles as close as possible to its original. Faux wood may be used when the actual product is either too expensive, difficult to attain or work with, or simplly is not very durable and more difficult to maintain.

Slat blind: consists of many vertical, flat slats, made of metal, vinyl or wood, and are connected with a string so that they can be rotated to allow different levels of light to pass between the slats or pulled up to allow the entire window to be clear. Mechanisms used to raise or lower the blinds or rotate the slats can be either manual by pulling a cord or twisting a long wand or completely motorized. (Wikipedia)

Mini blinds: slat blinds with very narrow slats (usually 19 or 24 mm wide) and used where people need window treatments made on a smaller scale.

Venetian blinds: slat blinds with slat widths commonly around 50 mm, but can go as high as 120 mm. Made of materials such as metal or plastic, or wooden slats which are commonly referred to as wood blinds or bamboo blinds.

Vertical blinds, or track blinds: slats blinds that consist of stiffened fabric, plastic, or metal hanging by one end from a track and the slats can be rotated 90 degrees to allow light to pass through or to fold up on one side of a door or window so as to have a clear window.
